Contest Rules

• Entries must be sent as .doc attachments. Judging will be blind, so please do not include your name in any part of an attachment.
• Please save the attachments as GENRE – Title. For example: FICTION – My Story or POETRY – My Poem.
• Email subject headings must read: GENRE – Name. For example, POETRY – John Doe or FICTION – Jane Doe.
• The body of your email will serve as a title page and must include the genre, title(s), and word count(s) of the entry, as well as your full name, address, phone number, and email.
• Fiction entries must be 2500 words or less and double-spaced.
• Poetry entries may contain up to 3 poems of no more than 40 lines each poem.
• All entries must be previously unpublished and not submitted elsewhere. 
• All entrants must be residents of Metro Vancouver.

Entry Fees

• $20 per entry, $5 per additional entry. For example, three stories would require an entry fee of $30 and 6 poems would require an entry fee of $25.
•  All entrants receive a one-year subscription to one cool word magazine, valued at $25 (each issue includes a magazine and a full-length CD).
• Payment can be made at www.onecoolword.etsy.com, by purchasing a Writing Contest Entry, and if needed, Additional Entries. Please include the same name and email that appear on your entry, so we can match your entry to your payment. We will confirm receipt of payment via email.
• Payments by cheque must be made payable to Jake Tobin Garrett, OCW contest treasurer, and sent to: OCW Writing Contest, 1765 East 8th Ave, Vancouver, BC, V5N 1T7. We will confirm receipt of payment via email. All mailed entries must include a hard copy of your entry’s title page so we can match it up to the emailed entry.

ENTRIES WILL NOT BE RETURNED AND ALL ENTRY FEES ARE NON-REFUNDABLE. ENTRIES THAT DO NOT FOLLOW THE ABOVE GUIDELINES WILL BE WITHDRAWN. OCW IS NOT RESPONSIBLE FOR LOST ENTRY FEES.
