A little over three years ago, New York-based artist, model, and occasional burlesque performer Molly Crabapple founded Dr. Sketchy's Anti Art School – a one-of-a-kind fusion of art lesson and cabaret night that promises, "three hours of drinking, drawing, and decadence."

Crabapple's fresh idea for life drawing (composing portraits of live models, sometimes nude and sometimes not) has taken off. After flourishing in New York, Dr. Sketchy's has gone on to spring up in over 63 cities over five continents.

And now, Vancouverites too can share cocktails in a fun atmosphere as they draw burlesque dancers, carnies, and fetish divas modeling in elaborate costumes.

Local artist Shary Contrary (www.sharycontrary.com) has brought Dr. Sketchy's to Vancouver, and over the past few months they have put on events such as a "Day of the Dead" in November, December's "XXXmas", and a "Winter Luau" in February.

Dr. Sketchy's is also available for private parties – you choose the theme, the sort of models you want, and they will come to you for a fun and sexy evening of figure drawing, cocktails, and entertainment.

The next Vancouver Dr. Sketchy's event, sponsored in part by ocw, takes place at the Beaumont Studios on Sunday, March 15. The theme is "Sundae Special," featuring model Rosie Delight and musical guest DB Buxton.
