Alisha Pelton’s interest in photography began in a grade-twelve photo class and has stuck ever since. She entered the Del Mar Fair photography contest at the end of that year and ended up winning third place for her black and white Self Portrait. After graduating from high school in Southern California, Alisha moved to Vancouver to attend the University of British Columbia, where she is currently completing her Bachelors of Fine Arts in Creative Writing. At UBC, Alisha is now the secretary of the UBC Photo Society, and has been an active member for three years running. She has been featured in three Photo Society gallery shows and one show at Sprouts, an organic and local foods café at UBC, that helped to raise funds for the UBC Farm. Alisha loves using film in colour and black and white, and printing in the darkroom. Her best friend is her ‘70s 35mm Minolta. Alisha's interest in writing was sparked in her grade-nine Journalism class and has been a burning passion ever since. She was on the staff of her High School newspaper for three years, an editor for two of them, and a columnist in grade-twelve. The freedom of her column made her realized her love for creative writing more than for journalism, and she explored this new-found fascination the following summer as a TA at a Creative Writing Camp for kids in San Diego. She is now studying Fiction, Non-Fiction, and Screenplay for her first year in UBC's Creative Writing Program, and her third year at UBC. Although she missed California's sun, she loves Vancouver and studying at UBC.
